Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner provides independent, advanced-level clinical care to pediatric patients and their families across inpatient medical and surgical services. This role includes management of chronic and stable conditions, routine and acute care, critical care, and specialty protocols such as chemotherapy, based on standardized procedures or independent practice within licensure. The Nurse Practitioner may perform non-invasive and invasive procedures, including surgical first assist when credentialed and approved.
Patient care decisions are made independently when appropriate and collaboratively with attending physicians and interdisciplinary team members. The Nurse Practitioner serves as an expert clinical resource for nurses, residents, and allied health staff and contributes to high-quality, team-based pediatric care.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications – NP I / II
Applicants are encouraged to upload required licenses and certifications.
Five or more years of recent experience as a pediatric critical care Registered Nurse or in a similarly complex medical setting (NP I)
One or more years of recent Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner experience (NP II)
Master’s degree, Doctor of Nursing Practice, or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing
Valid California Registered Nurse license without restriction
California Certified Nurse Practitioner license without restriction
California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing License within three months of hire
Drug Enforcement Administration certificate within three months of hire
National Nurse Practitioner board certification in a specialty aligned with the practice area
American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or UC Davis Health CPR
American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification within seven days of hire
Ability to meet hospital credentialing and billing requirements as a billable provider
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
Ability to function independently with strong organizational skills
Ability to manage stress experienced by patients, families, and healthcare team members
Key Responsibilities
Provide inpatient pediatric care across medical and surgical services, including ICU and ward-level patients
Order medications and diagnostic testing
Interpret laboratory results and diagnostic studies
Perform admissions, transfers, and discharge planning
Document care including daily progress notes and procedure notes
Consult and collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members
Communicate effectively with patients and families
Perform invasive procedures within scope of practice when credentialed
Provide education to patients, families, nursing staff, and allied health professionals
Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives within the Children’s Hospital
Time Allocation
