Job Summary
The Clinical Nurse Specialist or Advanced Practice Provider leverages advanced clinical expertise in one or more specialty areas to manage highly complex inpatient medical surgical care. This role collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to assess, prioritize, and deliver evidence-based nursing care for adult inpatient medical surgical populations. The position leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of new care models across the continuum and supports the rollout of policies and procedures across nursing units. Collaboration with clinical nurse specialists and health system leadership is essential to drive change and advance evidence-based practice.
This role mentors excellence in patient care across diverse patient populations and applies advanced clinical judgment to evaluate complex situations, set priorities, and guide decision-making. The position supports staff and patient education initiatives, demonstrates professional leadership, and maintains accountability in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a valid California Registered Nurse license and Advanced Practice license, including Clinical Nurse Specialist or Nurse Practitioner
Furnishing license if Nurse Practitioner licensed
Drug Enforcement Administration certificate within three months of hire if Nurse Practitioner licensed
National Board Certification if Nurse Practitioner in a specialty aligned with the practice area
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or UC Davis Health CPR
Master’s degree, Doctor of Nursing Practice, or PhD in Nursing from an accredited school
At least one year of clinical experience caring for adult acute care medical surgical patients
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills
Ability to apply nursing theories and concepts to clinical practice
Ability to manage stress experienced by patients, families, and healthcare team members
Preferred Qualifications
Two or more years of experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist or Nurse Practitioner caring for adult acute care medical surgical patients
