Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to patients in an inpatient behavioral health setting. This role requires a compassionate, empathetic, and professional approach to create a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment, with patient safety as a top priority.
Schedule, Hours & Contract Length
This is a full-time, 13-week contract (non-benefited) position with rotating weekends required. Nurses may choose between a 5 × 8-hour shift schedule or a 3 × 12-hour shift schedule, based on availability and staffing needs. All schedules include rotating weekends to ensure continuous patient coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients’ physical and behavioral health needs and coordinate nursing care
- Develop, implement, and update individualized nursing care plans
- Administer medications accurately and in accordance with physician orders and facility policies
- Monitor patient conditions continuously and document clinical findings appropriately
- Communicate significant changes in patient status to physicians and the interdisciplinary care team
- Complete admission and discharge processes efficiently and accurately
- Maintain accurate medical records, including controlled substance documentation
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, and behavioral health conditions
- Establish therapeutic rapport while maintaining professional boundaries
- Follow universal precautions, safety standards, and facility protocols
- Coordinate unit activities and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment or eligibility for licensure
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience
- Prior experience in psychiatric, mental health, behavioral health, or substance abuse nursing preferred
- CPR certification required (training available upon hire)
- De-escalation and restraint certification required (training provided by the facility)
- First Aid certification as required by state or facility guidelines
